Using Orotine to Fight Muscle Fatigue

By Elizabeth Myers, RD

Orotine is manufactured by M.A.N. and is marketed as being “the king of creatines” because it pushes the “power to fight muscle fatigue to completely new levels,” and because you get both creatine AND orotic acid supplementation in one formula.

Orotine sells for $49.95/bottle of 60 servings, with the recommended dose being one scoop twice daily.

Product Claims

  • “Higher energy complex providing greater endurance and contractile force.”
  • “The only form of creatine that can boost muscle carnosine concentrations.”
  • “Boosts muscle phosphocreatine more effectively by providing creatine as well as orotic acid which increases muscle uridine levels. Elevation of intramuscular uridine levels increase muscle phosphocreatine and creatine levels 38% and 3%, respectively.”
  • “Great for sprinting.”

Active Ingredients and How it Works

  • Creatine: gives you power, endurance, and aids in muscle recovery
  • Orotic Acid: gives you energy, power, assists in muscle recovery, and has growth-stimulating properties

Scientific Evidence

M.A.N. quotes many studies on its website regarding ingredients, but there is no proof that these are credible studies because there was no mention if they were double-blinded, placebo-controlled studies that provided reliable results that were free of partiality. The National Institutes of Health conducted some studies on the effects of creatine on athletic performance, endurance, muscle strength, and mass and had this conclusion: “It has been suggested that creatine may help improve athletic performance or endurance by increasing time to fatigue (possibly by shortening muscle recovery periods). However, the results of research evaluating this claim are mixed. Findings from different studies disagree with each other, and most studies do not support the use of creatine to enhance sustained aerobic activities.” As far as orotic acid is concerned, there needs to be more credible studies done regarding its effectiveness at enhancing muscle performance and growth before a conclusion can be made concerning this ingredient.

Consumer Feedback

“After a month and a week I am sold on Orotine. The results came quicker and stayed longer than what I have experienced with creatine monohydrate. I would defiantly buy this product and recommend it to a fellow strength trainer who is looking for a good alternative to creatine monohydrate.”

“I used one bottle and it was the worst supp I've ever tried as it mixed into a goo, would not dissolve and had the strongest bitter taste imaginable.”
