CortiSlim

By Elizabeth Myers, RD

CortiSlim is a non-stimulating weight-loss supplement that contains ingredients that are supposed to inhibit the production of stress-induced cortisol by helping to minimize stress and balancing the hormone levels that cause stress-induced belly fat and overeating.CortiSlim sells for $60/bottle for 270 pills, with the recommended dosage being two pills per day.

Product Claims

“CortiSlim supplements and a lifestyle plan help you increase energy levels, control appetite, manage weight, and relax and regain your sense of well being.”

Active Ingredients and How it Works

CortiSlim uses a blend of 10 active ingredients in each capsule. They include:

  • Chromium and banaba leaf extract: stabilizes blood sugar
  • Vitamin C: an antioxidant that helps repair muscle
  • Calcium: may inhibit body fat storage
  • Vanadyl Sulfate: mimics insulin which aids in glucose transport into muscle cells
  • Beta-Sitosterol: helps to maintain healthy cholesterol levels
  • L-Theanine: an amino acid that produces feelings of relaxation
  • Magnolia bark extract: has anti-stress properties
  • Green tea extract: an antioxidant, diuretic, and increases metabolism
  • Citrus Aurantium: contains Synephrine which has fat-burning properties

Scientific Evidence

There is no credible scientific evidence that supports CortiSlim’s claims. In fact, the manufacturers of CortiSlim have been charged by the US Federal Trade Commission for making false and unproven claims and were forced to pay over 4 million dollars in customer reimbursement. The "de-stressor" effect of Magnolia bark does appear to be supported by numerous animal studies, but studies on humans have not yet reproduced these results. Even if these ingredients do achieve these effects, what are the chances that you’re actually going to lose weight with this product? Although stress does equate with overeating for some people, most people do not gain weight merely because they are stressed. It is a huge generalization to suggest that "stress keeps us fat". It is also seriously misleading, since it does not factor in the other major causes that have played a part in the obesity epidemic over the last few decades, such as excessive calorie consumption and sedentary lifestyles.

Consumer Feedback

“Crap! It's all crap.. my mother, sister, and I tried it and saw NO results. I am sending it back to get the much promised money-back guarantee.... we shall see! Seriously .. tho.. waste of time and money. I felt nothing, saw nothing, lost nothing.”

“I recently ordered cortislim and have been on diets all my life and like others my weight has been a problem.  Since I began taking cortislim my weight has dropped ten pounds in only three weeks and i feel much better about myself.   I can finally say that I found something that works and i have only 30 more pounds to lose to reach my goal.”
